WE TRY TO GROW A BONSAI PALM TREE. I HAVE NEVER SEEN ONE BUT WE WILL GIVE IT A TRY USING THE UBIQUITOUS CABBAGE PALM OF FLORIDA. WE DIG IT OUT OF THE GROUND, CLEAN IT, PLANT IT, AND TRIM IT.

    As long as you have signs of new growth, I wouldn’t worry too much about the dropping leaves. Perhaps you didn’t trim enough foliage away after you cut down the root ball, so the roots could not support the existing foliage, but have recovered enough in the sphagnum moss to start regrowth. Just keep an eye on the new leaves and this gives you a perfect opportunity to limit the leaf size by selectively pruning the largest leaves as they develope.

    I have a coconut planted, but it shows no signs of sprouting at this point.
    The palms propigate by seeds. I believe the seeds are dispersed from the pinecones.

    How does the cabbage palm propagate itself, is it from seed or root system? I don’t have a clue. I’ve always wanted to grow a coconut tree. Have you done that yet?
