I bought my Azalea plant from a grocery store, and It’s not a tree or a bonsai. I bought it for $5.00, and I think it might be a dwarf but it just say’s Azalea on it. My plant is 6 inches tall and looks healthy, it does get some red leaves but not too many. Would it be possible to grow it as tall as a tree? and What can I do to allow it grow taller?
Thank you.
You probably bought what is called a florists’ azalea. It, along with many other kinds of azaleas will never grow tall. Often florists’ azaleas do not survive at all. You must have a green thumb to keep it alive.
my bonzi tree is outgrowing its current pot. is regular potting soil ok?
A good potting mix is ok as long as the container drains properly. Also it may be time to trim the roots a little to maintain the bonsai effect, if the plant is allowed to grow a normal root system then then it will have more growth above and just become a trimmed back plant.keeping the roots trimmed and the plant growing in a "undersized" container, keeps it bonsai’d

You should initially decide what the shape is you want and then start to trim, much like you would a bush, before you actually shave it (that is going to get tricky)
