Bonsai Inspirations

Posted on September 11th, 2009 by Jon Brown in bonsai tree care |

A visit to the mountains to seek bonsai shaping inspiration from full size trees, and a view of one “natural bonsai” as well. I am sorry for the poor sound quality, but we were working with the camera’s built-in mic and it was very windy up there. This is actually a re-edit of a video I uploaded and deleted, due to an editing problem with the original.

Start with a plant that has been growing in a deep pot, so that it already has long roots. In the early spring, take it out of the pot and wash the soil away. Put the roots over the rock and tie them on with twine. Repot the tree in a deep pot with soil covering the rock and the roots, and wait at least a year. Then lower down the soil level and pot the tree in a bonsai pot.
