Chinese Elm Bonsai Tree Seeds?

Posted on March 25th, 2009 by Jon Brown in bonsai seeds | 2 Comments »

Hi.

I have got some chinese elm bonsai seeds. I have followed the instructions which say place them in a glass or bowl of warm preferrably from a recently boiled kettle and leave for 24-36 hours. The ones that sink I can keep and the ones that float i can throw away.

Anyway I have left them for 24 hours and six of them have sank! I'm going to leave them for one more day and then follow the rest of the instructions. Basically it says something about putting the seeds in a wet but no soaking wet paper towel and leave them in the fridge for so many days I cant remember how many. Then it goes on to say that the seeds might require me to go straight to stage 3 and sow them. My question is how will I know if they need to be sowed or stored in the fridge?

Thanks for your answers.

Pop them in the deep freeze for a couple of weeks. This process is called "stratification".
This is from my hubby who's the family bonsai expert.
I would also suggest you google "stratification", also "zelkovia" and/or "ulmus chinensis", which are the posh names for Chinese elm.
Hope this helps!

Is this FUNNY? last time I was violated for posting it?

Following the problems in the sub-prime lending market in America and the run on Northern Rock Building Society in the UK, uncertainty has now hit Japan .

In the last 7 days Origami Bank has folded, Sumo Bank has gone belly up and Bonsai Bank announced plans to cut some of its branches.

Yesterday, it was announced that Karaoke Bank is up for sale and will likely go for a song, while today shares in Kamikaze Bank were suspended after they nose-dived.

Furthermore, 500 staff at Karate Bank got the chop and analysts report that there is something fishy going on at Sushi Bank where it is feared that staff may get a raw deal.

I still do not think its offensive, just a play on words
Thanks for the support. I appealed but it did me no good, so I just wanted to post it again.

i agree, i dnt see any harm in it, im gonna forward it to my co workers lmao, they’ll love it
